Our founder, Loren Holmes, created Hearts in Motion in 2018. It is a mobile dance service that offers workshops, classes, private lessons and choreography to dancers looking to grow their skillset or individuals who want to get started. Our dance genres include but are not limited to; ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, hip hop, stretching, tumbling and sensual movement classes for the ladies. We do choreography for all types of events such as competitions, recitals, showcases, private events and even weddings! Our goal is to make sure that our love for dance is used to educate, motivate and inspire each individual that we come into contact with. Everyone is a dancer, at heart.
Loren Holmes is a Beaumont native who was trained at The Art of Dance, under the direction of Lisa Badon. After graduating high school, she moved to Houston and attended Texas Southern University to acquire her Psychology degree. While there, she was a member of the Texas Southern University Dance Company. Like most of us, she had a change of heart and decided that she would switch her major to dance. She later attended Houston Community College, where she graduated with an Associate in Arts with a Dance Specialty. She graduated with High Honors and was a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success. She also was a member of the HCC Dance Ensemble, where Shani Sterling was the director. In 2013, after being introduced to others in the Houston dance community, she became a member of Urban Souls II under the direction of Harrison Guy.
It was there that she was introduced to Horton, a particular modern dance technique. In 2014, she became a teaching artist for The Ensemble Theatre and has been for the last 5 years. In 2015, she became a member of Sonkiss'd Dance Theatre where Chris Thomas was the artistic director. With Sonkiss'd, there were many performance and teaching opportunities locally and in other states. She has performed in places like New York, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She was a member of Statements Dance Company, under the direction of Nick Muckleroy, where they performed work that was socially conscious. Loren has been in music videos with recording artist Solange and has also been in videos and concerts as a dancer of The Black Angels Collective for Tobe Nwigwe.
Loren has dance studio experience and has been an instructor at Allegro Academy of Dance and Dance Express. In 2018, Loren graduated from the SURE Entrepreneur Program held at UH. It is this program that helped to inspire her to create Hearts in Motion. Her most recent accomplishment is being a recipient of the TYAN (Texas Youth Action Network) grant. She is also a Arts and Culture Connect Partner, member of the Houston Black Dance Collective as well as being granted into the Arts for Learning Lab Program thru Young Audiences Houston. With years of experience in many different settings, Loren is dedicated to making sure that Hearts in Motion helps to keep the world dancing, one heart at a time.
